4.5" Howlite Crystal Skull

Every skull begins as a single piece of natural howlite, and no two stones ever vein alike. The grey and black web-like lines fall in different patterns from piece to piece — nature's fingerprints, not flaws. What variation exists is in the depth and direction of each stone's own veining, laid down deep in the earth over ages.

Each skull is carved entirely by hand from a single piece of howlite, then polished to a soft, smooth glow. The rounded cranium, the deep eye sockets, the nasal cavity, the cheekbones and the row of teeth are all cut with the same patient hand — nothing moulded, nothing cast. This piece measures about 4.5 × 3.3 × 2.9 inches and weighs 950–1000 g, a substantial presence on a desk or shelf.

Named in 1868 after the Canadian mineralogist Henry How, howlite is a white stone threaded with grey, web-like veins — the mineral long traded as "white turquoise". It is today associated with calm, patience and quieting the mind. For spiritual reference only.
