No two Yellow Chalcedony skulls ever leave the workshop alike. Through this piece, translucent honey-gold and amber melt into cloudy patches of cream, with fine mineral speckles suspended inside the stone — traces of how it formed, layer by layer, deep underground. Every skull is carved entirely by hand, then polished to a mirror finish. Deep-set eye sockets, a clean triangular nasal cavity, defined cheekbones and a full row of individually cut teeth give the piece its anatomical presence, while the glassy surface turns the light a soft golden glow. It measures 3.0 × 2.3 × 2.0 inches and weighs 300–330 g — palm-sized, solid, and flat-based so it stands on its own.
Chalcedony takes its name from the ancient port city of Chalcedon on the Sea of Marmara, and Roman craftsmen prized it for carved seals and intaglios; by the Victorian era it was a favourite of jewellers across Europe.
