Red Jasper is a stone of texture rather than pattern. This little unicorn is carved from brick-red jasper crossed with cream and tan patches — a natural brecciated texture laid down in the earth over ages, so that no two pieces arrange their markings the same way. What variation exists is in the flow of its red and cream — nature's fingerprints, not flaws.
Each unicorn is carved entirely by hand from a single piece of red jasper, then polished to a mirror finish. The low, crouching pose, the single horn, the round indented eye and the short blunt muzzle are all cut with the same patient hand. It measures 2.75 inches tall and weighs 120–130 g — a poised, earthbound little figure that sits close to the surface it rests on.
Red Jasper was set into amulets of the Egyptian goddess Isis and carried by the soldiers of Rome — a stone of endurance prized through the ages. Today it is associated with grounding and steady strength, while the unicorn of European legend has long stood for freedom and quiet magic.
