Tiger’s Eye is not a stone you read — it is a stone you watch. Its golden-brown bands are layers of fibrous quartz, and as you turn the piece, a band of light appears to move across the surface, a phenomenon called chatoyancy, named after the French word for cat’s eye. Each piece carries its own rhythm of honey, amber and chocolate bands, and no two stones hold light quite the same way.
Every skull is carved entirely by hand, then polished to a mirror finish. Deep-set eye sockets, a clean triangular nasal cavity, defined cheekbones and a full row of individually cut teeth give the piece its anatomical presence, while the silk-like surface shifts between gold and brown with every turn of the wrist. It measures 2.2 × 1.6 × 1.5 inches and weighs 120–130 g — small enough to cup in one hand, substantial enough to feel like something.
The stone takes its name from the tiger, the animal long carried as a symbol of courage, protection and steady nerve. Roman soldiers wore tiger’s eye in battle as a talisman, believing it would keep their aim true and their hearts steady. Today it is associated with grounding and personal strength.
